Will my criminal record follow me to another country?
I was recently arrested for possession of a small amount of cocaine at my college in Illinois. I haven’t been to court yet but my lawyer says because I have no prior record I will probably only get 1 year of probation. I am a dual citizen of America and England and am considering moving back to attend university there. While I’m on probation can I go overseas and will the schools there be able to see my police record? Thanks.

The US does not allow dual citizenship, under the law one or the other…
While on probation you may not leave the state without permission of your probation officer or the court.
Some countries can see the conviction in a computer check, all of the European counties will, smaller “third world” will not. No what they do with it is up to the laws of that country, they vary drastically in regards to this. Check with the local counsel/embassy as you may have restrictions while in that country (registering with the police, attending classes etc.)
If you leave and do not finish your probation a warrant will be issued and when you return to the USA you will be arrested at the port of entry.
BTW….Ask about Drug Court or a drug program. The court will work with you in regards to your studies if your in a program. I am sure there are drug programs in the country your going to that will satisfy the court.
Good luck
