When police arrived to serve a search warrant at his home north of Charlotte, Mayfield was taken into custody. The pilfered items included heavy equipment parts, scrap metal, welders, and truck parts. Police seized about 40 guns, including antique weapons and high-powered rifles, and planned to check with the Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms and Explosives to make sure none were stolen.
