Drug Possession: Michelle Alexander Supporting SB 1506
“We are thrilled that some 900 people, including most of you, took the time to come to Compton last Thursday for the rally on California criminal in-justice. This would not have been possible without the support of our many event co-sponsors in getting the word out – so we are deeply grateful and greatly indebted to every organization that stepped up to help make this happen. Prof. Alexander also sends her thanks and adds her wish that we keep working together against mass incarceration in California. We promised you that we wouldn’t abuse your email, and we won’t. We will only send updates when something big is popping. This is not that kind of message, although all of us should take note of the fact that Gov. Brown’s “May Revise” budget actually increases state prison spending by 7 million even while it continues to slaughter urgently needed social services and public higher education funding. This horrendous news obviously underscores the urgency of our work. Last Thursday we were only able to collect a fraction (about 300) of the Personal Commitment Cards that we handed out. The cards were intended to give us an idea of where people’s particular interest lies in relation to working against mass incarceration.” – California Faith Action
