How Much Trouble Can You Get in for Possession of DMT?

Question by Ty: How much trouble can you get in for possession of DMT?
My buddy got stopped by some cops last night and they searched him and found that he had .2 grams of DMT. They handcuffed him and put him in the back of the cop car and ran all of his information. They took the drugs, but they released him and told him to go home. If he was going to be charged with something, wouldn’t they have taken him to jail right then? He has no previous record at all. They also told him that they had to “test” the substance. Were they just using this as a scare tactic? Or, is there a possibility that they will contact him in the next few days and try to charge him with possession?

If the test comes back identifying the substance as Dimethyltryptamine he will most likely be served a summons, or receive an indictment for possession of a schedule I drug. It’s not something you see very often so this might work in his favor.
