Please Help! What Is the Offence Classed as and Will It Be on My Record?
Question by oh dear: please help! what is the offence classed as and will it be on my record?
Please help me! I have enrolled in nursing at uni and am required to complete a criminal history record check and present a national police certificate before I am able to undertake any clinical practice placements
The document I received from uni said this:
“Most Australian health care agencies require a Criminal History Record Check for all staff, students and volunteers who will come into contact with children, elderly and vulnerable people. The Tasmanian Department of Health and Human Services requires, ‘all positions classified in the Nursing Stream who provide direct care or services to patients and or clients’ to be checked for:
– Crimes of Violence
– Sex related Offences
– Serious Drug Offences
– Crimes Involving Dishonesty”
This is the part I am freaking out about!
In 2007 I was caught by an undercover cop smoking a joint, it wasn’t mine but obviously I was in possession of it when caught. It was very small, would have only been about 2cm long. I received a written warning and had to give a short statement as there were others involved too. I did not get a fine or have to go to court or anything like that, but would this be considered a serious drug offence? They took my name, address and contact details and handed me a piece of paper that had the offence details written on it, and on the back it had the consequences of being caught again. If they have my name etc it would be put on my record right?
I’m sorry if this seems like a stupid question but I am really freaking out about this, I am unable to complete my uni course if I am not able to partake in clinical practice placements. I don’t want to have to withdraw out of nursing because of a stupid mistake I made a few years ago!
Any other information you have would also be greatly appreciated!
Thanks in advance

You were not charged with anything, apparently only warned. Marijuana in the event you described does not constitute “Serious Drug Offences”. No worries
