I Have Possession of Marijuana on My Background Check but It Says Disposed?

Question by Armstrong Productions: I have possession of Marijuana on my background check but it says disposed?
I have possession of Marijuana on my background check that came back for Kaplan University. The background check says disposed of on xx/xx/2013, and also says DIVERSION. Because I received Diversion, was ordered to pay fines, attend a drug class, and do community service…I’ve done my drug class and 20 hours of community service and I will be paying my fines next week. The BC says DISPOSED OF…will I still be able to attend school for the Criminal Justice program and receive a job? If the charge is disposed and I meet my obligations for the diversion????

Please talk with a couple different “criminal defense” lawyers for some legal advice, preferably those who are in “good standing” with the “American bar association”. (Some attorneys will offer a free initial consultation.) I’m not sure if a past conviction will preclude an individual from taking licensure exams for a law enforcement job or obtaining such a job itself.

Apparently “disposed of” refers to that the case has come to a conclusion that “is no longer pending on the court’s docket”, according to a defense attorney that answered a question online. Please, however, don’t rely on something that a lawyer has said online and instead call some local attorneys 🙂

Please be aware that Kaplan is one of those private For-profit schools. Their course credits usually do ** NOT ** transfer to other schools, even if the for-profit school is regionally accredited as opposed to only nationally accredited.

** This consumer site has a lot of negative posts by former students of those for-profit schools, and please heed the students’ warnings: http://www.complaintsboard.com and can search.

Please instead consider the more affordable *community college* and/or the *state-public university* as long as the program is accredited within the industry. Just an fyi that “American public university” is a for-profit school.

For U.S. colleges (though please still forgo those for-profit schools): http://www.utexas.edu/world/univ

Hopefully, you’re continuing to be “in recovery” from substance use. Alcoholics Anonymous (AA) has free 12-step programs throughout the world. One may attend an “open” AA meeting if there is no drinking problem: http://www.aa.org/

(With regard to even synthetic marijuana (e.g., K2, spice, potpourri and herbal incense), please be aware that it has left a teen girl with permanent brain damage and blindness. Her parents have started a non-profit to raise awareness of its dangers: http://www.safe4emily.org/ )

Please also do *not* engage in “huffing” (fumes or chemical vapors). My friend actually has a severe BRAIN INJURY from inhalant use at the age of 12, now in her 30s. For more info re: (regarding) the dangers of huffing: http://www.inhalants.org

This site has some common mottos pertaining to those 12-step programs, such as “One day at a time”, “First things first” and “People, places and things”: http://www.royy.com/toolsofrecovery.html
