How does cocaine cause numbness? and why doesn’t meth?

Cocaine and meth are chemically unrelated, although they’re both CNS stimulants.
Cocaine is also a topical anesthetic, like novocaine and lidocaine It’s the “caine” part that’s the anesthetic.
