How Bad Is a Drug Paraphernalia Charge and Should an Attorney Be Hired?

Question by Jack: How bad is a drug paraphernalia charge and should an attorney be hired?
Im 17 years old from new jersey. My friend’s car was pulled over and they found marijuana on his jacket. As the cops were chasing him he told me to hide the bowl and i put it in my pocket. The police told me that i will receive a mail to my house with the location and date of the juvenile court. I want to know what to expect. Is this gonna be put on my records? how much will i be fined? or will it be community work? do i need to hire an attorney? thanks.

So you hide illegal items on yourself? I’d be like”bro that’s cops your on your own”. You’re pretty dumb..

your buddy should have taken the charge, he already had possession and a felony eluding charge, kind of shady of him, imho. here’s the jersey paraphernalia law:

Paraphernalia

Possession or use of paraphernalia is a “Disorderly Persons Offense” punishable by a maximum sentence of 6 months imprisonment and a maximum fine of $ 1,000.

Sale of paraphernalia is a felony punishable by a maximum sentence 18 months imprisonment and a maximum fine of $ 10,000.

Sale of paraphernalia to minors is a felony punishable by a sentence of 3-5 years imprisonment and a maximum sentence of $ 15,000.

since it’s your first charge it will probably just be probation and fines, maybe community service. it’s up to the judge. get a new friend.

Hire an attorney, don’t discuss the case with anyone else, and don’t describe what happened online anymore.
