How Competitive Is the 10th CD for NCSSM Applicants?

Question by Rebecca: How competitive is the 10th CD for NCSSM applicants?
I’m in the 10th congressional district (Catawba County area) and applying for the North Carolina School for Science and Mathematics. Does anyone know how many they typically accept from this district? Is it very competitive? I’m just looking for a general idea.

I graduated NCSSM Class of 1984 after transferring from Bunker Hill High School (BHHS) in Catawba County. At the time, there were two of us from my county accepted into that class. I do not know how many applied from my county, but I do know that I was the only BHHS applicant.

Sadly for my counterpart, he and his roommate got expelled during their junior year for possession of drug paraphernalia (a bong). I encourage you to read my article “Advice for Those Considering NCSSM” at http://rebirthofreason.com/Articles/Setzer/Advice_for_Those_Considering_NCSSM.shtml to prepare you fully for what is to come should you get accepted. I also have a video called “Slash $ 24,000 and Two Years from College at NCSSM” at http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=cQ7KwFjIWGo you might find helpful.

Question by john r: What is the penalty for cocaine possession in Hawaii?
What does the law in HI have to say about possession of powder cocaine for personal use. I am not asking: “what will happen?”, but rather: “what is the law?” A statute or code section would be nice.

How Much Detail Do I Need to Disclose for an Expunged Charge on a Job Application?

Question by outdooreli: How much detail do I need to disclose for an expunged charge on a job application?
I was arrested for a minor marijuana (minor misdemenor) charge on my 19th birthday (7 years ago) at my undergradute university. The charge was lessened to “disorderly conduct” and then EXPUNGED a year later. Now I am graduating with a masters degree, have kept a clean record, and am applying for competitive jobs.

Even though my record is “clean”, I have decided that I will disclose the arrest on job appications, for the sake of honesty, but I’d much rather stick to ‘disorderly conduct’ as opposed to “possession of marijuana”.

Since I was arrested for possession, but charged with DC, can the employer somehow review the arrest record? The jobs I am applying for require a pre-employment drug screening (which I can pass) and I dont want my application to be discarded because I have a “drug” arrest, but not a “drug” charge.

If a Person Breaks a Criminal Law, Is the Victim’s Statutory Rights Infringed?

Question by constantine7337: If a person breaks a criminal law, is the victim’s statutory rights infringed?
I need to know if a statutory right is broken if a criminal law is broken. Is a criminal law considered a statutory right?

Best answer:

Answer by Bob B
Depends exactly on what sort of crime has occured. If it’s something like an assault or murder, then yes, the victim’s rights are definitely infringed. Because of this, the victim basically has the right to sue a criminal for damages if they so choose (this actually happened to OJ Simpson after the criminal proceedings failed), although as this is expensive and you may have to pay the other side’s legal fees if you lose, it is rarely done, and when it is, it is usually only if criminal proceedings fail or the police decide not to investigate the crime.
