Question by : Can I be fined for possession of a hookah?
So I’m currently living in Student Housing in the state of Hawaii. Long story short, I guess there was “room checks” and they found a hookah in my room. It has only been used for legal tobacco, yet my building fined me 500$ for it, saying that it was”drug paraphernalia”. Would it be worth fighting this? I think 500$ for a hookah is a little absurd!

Hookah’s aren’t illegal in the u.s.
Basically, with the guilty until proven innocent, you can possibly have a test run on any traces still inside?
I’m not really sure how it would work..

what the f ?! you should fight it. its “main” purposse is for tobacco and you used tobacco on it so their shouldnt be a fine. fight it!it!

if you are over 18 you can probably fight it!
There are very few states where paraphernalia is illegal, and as far as I know hawaii isn’t one I’d say fight it.

Yes, this is worth the fight. First you can print out online exactly what a hookah is and how it is used in comparison to a “bong” -which is what they probably mistook it for. It is not illegile to use a hookah out in public as long as you are over 18 yrs of age and are using a tobacco product. It is considered the same as if you where smoking a tobacco pipe. Same rules apply-no smoking within 20ft of buildings-no smoking inside bars or resturants unless a designated smoking room is provided-etc.. The sheriffs department website provides the information you need. It is not only the $ 500 ~You do not want the incident to be recorded in your college transcripts.
