The numbers are obviously flawed – how does one measure “religiosity,” exactly? Religion is a dirty word among 60% of America’s most religious people. How is that going to effect the outcome of a survey on religiosity?

Intelligence based on what the “world” believes as intelligence, is foolish indeed.

Not at all. A lot of highly intelligent people have religious faith. A lot of complete morons are atheists. (And too many of them seem to come to this site.) It is as much of a myth to say that having a religious belief does not allow you to be rational, intelligent, or curious and willing to learn as it is to say that being an atheist means you can have no moral structure. A human being is going to be what they are, regardless of religious beliefs or lack thereof. And that includes whether they are going to use their beliefs or lack thereof to excuse extreme snottiness to those who believe differently.

I am not a Christian and I do believe that the more of a religious fanatic one is, the less intelligent they are.

The Bible does make one wise, in general and in religious matters. Read the book of Proverbs, for example. However, I don’t think that’s the only thing we can do to lighten our darkened understanding.

I believe that true intelligence is neither directly, nor indirectly proportional to religiosity. I have noticed that people who “think” that they are intelligent usually are atheists though. It seems that if one believes themselves to be more intelligent than they actually are, they think that they are “little gods” themselves and don’t need any other. These people are “legends in their own mind”, “educated beyond their intelligence”.
Many truly intelligent people that I have encountered though are not religious, but don’t feel that they have to run around bashing religion. I have also met many intelligent people who are actually religious.

No and Yes.., like; people who have not been privileged to higher education seem more attacted to faith and belief in God with less problem. Intelligence has nothing to do with religion. There are many intelligent people who have used religion to hurt and persuade people and control them. It’s really not about intelligence.., it is that truly transparent, humble, trusting and loving people, who believe in God and trust their lives into His hands, are misunderstood by arrogant, judgmental and self serving people. People who are “religious” are not necessarily truely godly people.., religion is a FORM of rules and dictation to make people CONFORM to certain DOCTRINES and BEHAVIORS. True godliness is all about exchanging our self-serving, unloving human nature for the godly & loving nature of God through the Lordship of Jesus Christ and living in ‘right” relationship with God in this world system. Intelligence has absolutely NOTHING to do with needing a Savior from your sin-nature. Usually, human intelligence leads to human arrogance and rejection of a need for God.
Truthfully, man was created to live in relationship with His creator and BEFORE the “fall” of mankind, Adam and Eve KNEW much more than anyone today and their intelligence was complete.., not proportional to anything or anyone else. They weren’t religious.., they were in RELATIONSHIP with God Himself! Men who don’t walk with God made religion to control them. Relationship with God is all about a life of loving God and your fellowman and allowing that to guide you.
Human Intellect and religion are all about the ‘mind of man’ and spirituality and true knowledge are far beyond that. A chosen relationship with God through Jesus Christ give you the “mind of Christ”, spiritual understanding and divine wisdom.
