What Are Some Non-Drug Ways to Reduce the Severity of Headaches?

Question by Agent 007: What are some non-drug ways to reduce the severity of headaches?
I will be a high school junior next year, and yesterday I recieved a very cheerful letter from the admin stating that the school will no longer be giving Tylenol or other OTC headache meds to students…all part of the “drug free” campaign (thanks, SADD).
Previously the policy was that if you had a headache bad enough to interfere with your studies, which happens to me about twice a month, you would go to the nurse for a Tylenol- and come September, there will be no more of that. Bringing my own just in case is a HUGE no-no: it is considered to be “drug possession” (again, thank you SADD) and is punishable by suspension. In a nutshell, I will have no legal access to Tylenol or any other non-presciption drug whatsoever between the hours of 7:00 and 3:30.
So, with that in mind, what are common non-drug ways to relieve headaches? Relaxion and hot baths have helped me in the past, but those obviously won’t be feasible during the day. Are there any quick methods, things I could take to lunch to eat…anything? Any help would be appreciated.

water, water, water! Most of people’s headaches are caused from dehydration, just because you aren’t thirsty doesn’t mean that your body isn’t in need of water.

Peppermint oil. It will smell pretty strong, but it can work for some headaches. Put a little dab on each of your temples and it will start to alleviate the pain in about 5 minutes. That’s all i know that can be done while at school.
first up try to ditch drinking sodas, pop and soft drinks as they all contain large amounts of processed sugar ……. processed sugar is the scurge of the earth mate and will only ever serve to rip the calcium and magnesium right out ofyour strong young growing bones…. without enough calcium and magnesium in your system you’ll suffer slapping headaches, fatigue and exhaustion, insomnia, achy bones, irritability and moodiness, nasty mood swings, constipation and other digestive issues like bloating etc.etc……. calcium and magnesium work in tandem for healthy neural functioning, heart bone and tooth health and for healthy digestion……. sugary and junky take out foods will do the same thing ……… they acidify your bloodstream thus prompting your body to attempt to neutralise it by ripping calcium and magnesium out of your bones…….. eat more green vegies, fresh salmon and tuna, organic nuts and seeds like almonds and brazil nuts…. all spectacularly rich in calcium and magnesium and way easier todigest than all that milk and dairy.
drink more water too as somebody else has already posted ….. sodas and pop, caffeine and alcohol will also dehydrate you terribly… get enough sleep……. try to manage your stress levels….. eat enough iron rich foods too…….. lean meats, eggs, rolled oats, green vegies…. lack of iron will give you nasty slapper headaches……. try to work out why you’re getting the headaches ….. maybe you’re also eating something that doesn’t agree with your system and it’s giving you random headaches …….. oranges give me nasty headaches the next day…. or it could just be that you are being exposed to a perfume, airfreshner or other chemical that gives you headaches.
good luck
peace baby

I’m a massage therapist and I teach my clients the Chinese cure for head aches.
First put thumb pressure on the third eye chakra (right between the eye brows) for as log as it takes to take two or three slow deep breaths.
Then the same pressure on the crown chakra (center of the top of your head straight up from your ears) for about the same length of time.
Then lightly trace a line from the third eye to the crown several times. This encourages the exchange of energy between the two energy systems governed by those chakras. It is not instant but it does reduce the pressure in the head.
It is almost 2 years since I took medicine for a head ache. Hope it works as well for you.
What I have found to work for myself when I did not have Tylenol on hand, was to get some crushed red pepper, ( the kind you put on pizza) and eat some, not a whole lot, just a few and within 30 minutes, sometimes less, no more pain.
