What Do You Think About the World Cup Being Held in Qatar in 2022?
Question by Trillian: What do you think about the World Cup being held in Qatar in 2022?
I really wasn’t sure what to think at first.
After a bit of research, I think it is a horrible idea. I am aware that people did not think the WC in SA would go well either, but that was an ENTIRELY different situation.
Below is an excerpt taken directly from the US official travel website. It is about laws in Qatar
HOMOSEXUALITY = LASHES?? IMPRISONMENT FOR OBSCENE LANGUAGE? WHAT.THE.HELL.
Read below
“Incidents involving insults or obscene language/gestures often result in arrest, overnight imprisonment, and/or fines whether the incident occurs between private parties or involves officers of the law. Insulting someone in public is considered a punishable offense. Drunk driving, public intoxication, and other alcohol-related offenses are treated with severity and will result in arrest, heavy fines, imprisonment, or expulsion from the country. Penalties for possession, use, or trafficking in illegal drugs in Qatar are severe, and convicted offenders can expect long jail sentences and heavy fines. Homosexual activity is considered to be a criminal offense, and those convicted may be sentenced to lashings, a prison sentence, and/or deportation.”

This is a disaster waiting to happen
If you read the question, you will note that I did not bring up the issue of womens rights at all, though undoubtedly it is an issue it parts of the country. This question has nothing to do with the media, it has to do with enforcable laws in Qatar. Tell me, how is a list of enforcable laws related to media bias in ANY way shape or form. Any country whose government implements a law against homosexuality is disgusted and bigoted and does not deserve to play ANY part in world affairs.

Your letting the media tell you what to do, use your head the media is always wrong. I live in Qatar and women are free in this country. The media can make anyone do anything and believe anything. Whether it’s a government site or not they will have clear biases.
There is 12 years before the 2022 world cup. People need to stop behaving as if they are going to host the world cup tomorrow.

Besides what you have mentioned, I cannot see how anyone would expect players from a cooler climate to have to play football in 55 degree heat…they will all die of heat stroke…
I have no problem . What have their laws to do with a game of football some of which the West should copy where so many serious crimes just get a slap on the wrist.
Its a soccer contest and they are spending billions to ensure the comfort of players and spectators alike. Ok they have a problem with gays so do many other places . I doubt it it will play any part in the matches. Are they going to forbid a gay player to enter the country > Hardly. Your question sounds a little like sour grapes as your country was not chosen. Remember the Chinese olympics. They also took some criticism but at the end of the day managed to put on a display the likes of which will be difficult to beat
I don’t think it’s fair that the World Cup will be held in Qatar and not the United States. From what I have read, it’s only been held here once and doing that I think was slapping Americans in the face.
Bringing the crowds to Al Queda…. how convenient!
