Illegal Drug Possession: Is It Legal for a U.S. Citizen to Travel to a Country Where Pot Is Legal, Then Return With It in His System?
Question by Jean-Francois: Is it legal for a U.S. citizen to travel to a country where pot is legal, then return with it in his system?
I heard a person can get in trouble for “possession” of marijuana just by having it in their system, but what if they traveled to a place like Amsterdam and smoked it legally and then returned?
Can they get in trouble for possession still if it’s found out to be in their system?
@Subject to Blackout : The person can be found out if they’re ever given a drug test for whatever reason, such as suspected DUI even though they weren’t. A drug test can show you’ve smoked it like three weeks ago, and just possessing THC in your system can be enough to get you busted. But what if you can prove you smoked it legally somewhere? This is not a stupid question. You’re not thinking.

Errm wrong section for U.S. Citizen because this is Yahoo! Canada but yes it would, you could go to jail.
How in the world would you ever get caught? It’s not like you have to take a drug test when your plane lands back in the states. Smoke all the pot you want in Amsterdam no one would ever know if you didn’t tell them. You can’t be arrested for being high, you get arrested for driving under the influence of a controlled substance or just plain acting like a weirdo. So, as long as you’re not acting like a dumb asss in a public place, then who would ever know if you’re high or not?
First, why would you smoke pot when you know you’d be taking a drug test soon?
Second, WHY would you be taking a drug test in the first place.
I don’t think you read correctly or understood my answer. I’m asking you how you think that you would get caught? There has to be some reason someone would make you take a drug test. What I am saying is that if you don’t give anyone a reason to be suspicious of your activities, then you have nothing to worry about.
You need to be more specific about your situation. For instance, if you are in the army and you get leave to go to Amsterdam for a week… the army will probably test you just to keep you honest. Or you are work at a company that holds random drug testing. In those cases, just be smart, use your head, and don’t smoke pot. You have nothing to worry about if you just don’t do it, right? 🙂
dude youll be fine ive gone to amsterdam twice and came back … if everybody who went to amsterdam came back and got in trouble for having smoked everybody coming from their would be in jail …. plus im pretty sure its not illegal to have it in your system , like when you take a drug test at a job and fail they dont call the cops cause the cops wont do anything
