I was recently charged with an MIP for alcohol, im 20 years old and the officer i talked to told me it was on the same level as a speeding ticket and all i would have to do is pay a fine, he made it sound like no big deal. However, ive been looking online and some of the consequences sound pretty serious. Will this increase my parents car insurance payments? Will my license be suspended?

Texas Alcoholic Beverage Code, Section 106.05 provides that a minor (a person under the age of 21 years) commits this offense if he possesses an alcoholic beverage.
A minor may possess alcohol if he is in the visible presence of his adult (over the age of 21 years) parent, guardian, spouse, or other adult to whom he has been committed by a court.

I see no hindrance in getting grants for school if you have paid the debt for your crime especially if you are under close scrutiny by authority. As long as you don’t show any indication of returning to your former life of crime you should be eligible for assistance. As far as I know the only right that felonies remove is voting rights. I think there has even been reform concerning this issue since even the incarcerated are still subject to rules and regulations set by our elected officials.
