Money With Traces of Cocaine.?
Question by Graham: Money with traces of cocaine.?
I heard that quite a bit of money in circulation has cocaine residue on it. So is it possible that a drug dog could pick up on the smell? or is it to small for them to notice?
Best answer:
Answer by Howard L
80% of the bills in circulation have trace amounts of cocaine on them. Some bills have a lot more than a trace so it is possible a drug dog will detect it. It’s not a crime unless you have packaged cocaine on your person.
Answer by Bob B
It’s entirely possible- dogs can be very sensitive.
That said, drug dogs are rather inaccurate (some sources say they only get it right 10-20% of the time), and even if a dog did detect money with cocaine residue on it, this wouldn’t be enough evidence to convict- the money would need to be tested in a lab to confirm the presence of cocaine, and even then it could have come from anyone who touched the bill.
