I used to support the US “war on drugs” and them taking out coca in other countries. But I realize coca is grown for purposes other than making cocaine. How much of the coca grown in south america is devoted to purely cocaine production?

It would be impossible to give a definitive answer to such a question since the growing of the coca plant for cocaine is illegal in any country. Some countries such as argentina, bolivia and peru have regulation that allow it for medical and personl use (chewing the leaves and making tea) but these are small plots and plants in family gardens. My best guess is that at least half of the coca that is harvested is for illegal purposes.
