It’s only illegal if you’re taking it without a prescription… unlike marijuana.
The DEA actually places coccain on the Schedule II category, whereas marijuana is a Schedule I category (along with heroine and completely illegal substances). The thing is marijuana doesn’t have such negative side-effects as cocaine, where marijuana can negatively affect the memory and cognitive abilities cocaine can cause insomnia which leads to hallucinations and often times cocaine will lead to death.

Studies show that even those with no previous heart problems risk cardiac complications from cocaine. Increased use may sensitize the brain to the drug’s effects so that less of the substance is needed to induce a seizure. Those who inject the drug are at high risk for AIDS and hepatitis when they share needles. Allergic reactions to cocaine or other substances mixed in with the drug may also occur.
Psychologically, the drug reduces concentration, ambition, and drive, and increases confusion and irritability, wreaking havoc on users’ professional and personal lives. Psychological effects include feelings of well-being and a grandiose sense of power and ability mixed with anxiety and restlessness. As the drug wears off, these temporary sensations of mastery are replaced by an intense depression, and the drug abuser will then “crash”, becoming lethargic and typically sleeping for several days.
Habitual use may lead to cocaine psychosis, causing paranoia, hallucinations, and a condition known as formication, in which insects or snakes are perceived to be crawling under the skin. The paranoia and depression can instigate violent and suicidal behavior.
It can become an expensive addiction. People addicted to cocaine behave similarly. They will go to great lengths to get cocaine and continue to take it even when it hurts their school or job performance and their relationships with loved ones.
So why is cocaine illegal? It’s addictive and have potential to damage your physical and mental health if used in excess. It can lower the inhibitions and cause people to feel exhilarated, and if used immoderately can cause people to be opinionated, arrogant and bolshy.
It doesn’t make you a bad person or do bad things.
It makes you feel warm, content, energized and like you are 10ft tall and bullet proof.
You don’t hallucinate.
It is addictive and expensive though, so if people are hooked, they might rob someone to get the money to get more coke.
It is bad for the fetal development, but I’m not sur how.
I think it is illegal because there will always be people who misuse it.
