What Happens if Cocaine Gets Into an Open Wound?
Question by Starr: What happens if cocaine gets into an open wound?
I know this question seems a little odd and random but I’m trying to do some research on cocaine for something I’m writing. However, I haven’t had any luck finding the answer to this question. Basically, what I’m looking to find out is this:
Would the cocaine burn if it got into an open wound?
And
What would the effects be? Would it be the same as shooting up or more like snorting?

In street form it is a hydrochloride salt, which may cause minor irritation in the short term, though you probably won’t notice due to the immediate numbing effect. It originally was used as a local oral anesthetic for sore throats and dentistry, so i wouldn’t imagine it hurting severly, though continued use would most likely stop or even reverse the healing process. (as in heavy coke users developing deviated septums)
It would immediately enter the blood system. I have no idea how that would feel – however, the effects would probably be quicker then “shooting up” or “snorting.” The effects would probably end quicker as well since it would be so concentrated.
Your best bet is to call a doctor or hospital they would have someone that may be able to answer or point you in the right direction.
While there would be some irritation from the powder, it is expected that the numbing effects of the drug would act immediately.
In a shallow wound, the effects would be similar to snorting, since the drug enters the blood stream indirectly.
