I think it is when they are following someone and that someone leads them to drugs. I would think they would have bad self esteem and very loose morals. They would need to believe in themselves and go to rehab to feel normal again.

People with low self esteem and who mostly have no mind of their own, usually trend hoppers, some people think it’s loners who are most addicted it’s not it’s people with a relativly good social life and lots of friends, hence the reason they are introudce to it in the first place.
All drugs, if used long enough, eventually cause the user to “need” them to feel normal. It starts out that they take them for the high. Addiction happens when they need them to feel normal. What you are asking is a question debated by many. Addiction is considered a disease. Some people believe it is genetic, others believe it’s simply the result of a person’s actions.
One thing is certain, when a person becomes addicted there is always an underlying reason. It may be depression or some other mental condition or negative feelings about ones self. Usually it has to do with the way they handle stress or feelings that are not pleasant. In other words, using is a coping mechanism.
I think it would be extremely rare for a person to become an addict based solely upon a physical condition (lacking dopamine.) That being said, many addicts do not believe there is an underlying cause. They believe they get high just because they like the feeling. They do like the feeling, but once they take a deep look inward (usually in a program of recovery) they find there is another reason why they abuse their bodies this way.
I suggest this person find a suitable recovery program where they can learn how to NOT “need” this drug anymore.
Best wishes.
Edited to add: Stereotyping an addict is ignorant. Addiction knows no race, gender, social class, religion, etc. It has nothing to do with loose morals or following the crowd. Prescription drug addiction is rampant among upper-middle class housewives and young professionals. Cocaine is stereotyped as a status symbol, a rich person’s drug. It has been glamourized since the 70’s. When people envision a junkie they picture something that represents MAYBE 2% of all addicts.
Some recovering addicts say they were hooked the very first time they encountered their drug of choice. Prescription drug users often turn to street drugs. They simply can’t get enough prescription drugs to sustain themselves. Now they make the switch from pain pills to heroin, Ritalin to cocaine or meth.
I think everyone should watch HBO’s new series “Addiction.” This is especially true if you know someone with an addiction or if you are still associating addiction with morality or social class, or if you think all addicts are the same.
