I go to a methadone clinic. I’ve been on methadone for at least ten years. My drug screens are always clean. Although this last screen came back positive for cocaine. I’m also on other meds for high blood pressure and diabetes. The nurse at the clinic says none of my other meds would make a positive reaction like that. I’m baffled someone please help.

Poppy Seeds can make people test positive for cocaine.
It’s in a Seinfeld episode. Have you had a lot of poppy seed muffins or anything lately? Hope this helps

Poppy seeds or tonic water. The Quoinine in Tonic will show a positive. Also, there is a brand of Tea…usually only people from Argentina use this tea, it’s made from coca leaves and will also show a positive.

It could be a false reading. It’s strange but also possible to test positive if you’ve eaten foods with poppy seeds like a bagel or poppy seed cake. You need to consume a bunch but the TV show Mythbusters replicated false results for cocaine through ingesting poppy seeds.
have you taken any medication with codine in it.
Poppy seeds would make a false positive for heroin use, not cocaine.
Amoxicillin is associated with a false positive for cocaine. Have you been on antibiotics recently?

There are numerous herbal supplements and medications that can account for false positives.
The good news is, you can dispute it and a second test, different than the first, should be conducted.
Do you use any asthma meds?
There is not much cross reaction any more with drug testing, the accuracy of the test depends on what test methodology is performed and who did it.
I do these tests. I have some $ 100 test kits that can have a cross reaction, then I have some $ 1,000,000 instruments that you cannot fool. So really it is relative to how they are done.
Since you have been in rehab and staying clean, I tend to think perhaps someone keyed in the wrong answer into the computer or the sample was mixed up with someone elses, or the equipment was not properly calibrated, or… etc
Although we say we dont make those mistakes, there are definitely variables that are perhaps tech related or money related (quality of equipment) when performing those tests.
Request to be re-tested.
