Would I Be Able to Join the Marines With a Juvenile Marijuana Charge?

Question by Devin: Would I be able to join the marines with a juvenile marijuana charge?
Well to start off, it’s been my dream since I was a little kid to join the marine corps. But back in my sophomore year of highschool (now in senior year and will graduate and hopefully enlist in 2013) I ran into trouble with the cops. I was charged with possession and paraphernalia. I had to do 20 hours of community service, and I was told it would all be dropped or something along those lines. Nothing really came of the whole deal, I wasn’t ever even drug tested like I was told I would have to do, and they said its because they felt I was a good kid. They also told me I wouldn’t have to tell the military if I ever went to enlist. But everywhere else that I’ve read says you have to and if you don’t it’s a federal crime. So I’m obviously gonna put it down, but is this gonna disqualify me from joining the corps? And I was also wanting to eventually become an officer. Would that be a possibility? Any information would be greatly appreciated

P.s… I know what I did was wrong, but I don’t touch the stuff anymore and I’m really hoping one mistake that I made when I was younger isn’t gonna ruin my adult dreams. I also live in Oklahoma if that makes any difference.

Doubtful, but any Marine recruiter could answer that for you.

No, they don’t allow druggies in the Marine Corps.

Why do you think you would be excused for drug use in Oklahoma? “We don’t smoke Marijuana in Muscogee, we don’t take our trips on LSD.” Remember that one? “We don’t let our hair get long and shaggy, like the hippies out in San Francisco do.” Merle Haggard

  • CEMC:

Would require a waiver, and the Corps, and the military in general, aren`t granting too many these days, and it`s only going to get worse.

Betcha you wish you hadn`t done that, huh?

    And it`s Marine Corps. Capitalized.

If they told you it was dropped then it was dropped. There should not be ANYTHING on it in your record. It should not disqualify you en tifrom becoming an officer.
