Levels of Benzoylecgonine in Cocaine?

Question by Danielle Simpson: Levels of Benzoylecgonine in Cocaine?
Can anyone tell me what the normal levels of benzoylecgonine are in cocaine? I have a murder victim found with 0.82mg per litre of benzoylecgonine in their blood as well as 0.02mg per litre of cocaine in their blood? I’d like to know if this indicates that the victim had taken cocaine at some point, whether it is a high amount or not and how long ago they are likely to have taken it. Please help.

Thank you

There is no benzoylecognine in cocaine, it is a metabolite of cocaine.

Since cocaine is not an endogenous substance, any amount indicates cocaine usage. The half life of cocaine is approx. 1.25hours, and the half life of benzoylecognine is about 7 hours. Only about 50% of the cocaine dose is converted into benzoylecognine making it hard to determine a specific dose.

How long ago it was taken is also difficult to determine.
