Why Are People So Ignorant When It Comes to Smoking Marijuana?

Question by Aaron: Why are people so ignorant when it comes to smoking marijuana?
I’ve read some questions about marijuana on here and some of the answers are unbelievable!
“It fries your brain cells”
Nowadays when people label things as “drugs” they think
“OMG drugs are horrible” Drugs are horrible, but i don’t think marijuana fits that label.
People who smoke bud are just looking to relax and have a good time. Where is the horror in that?
Agree? Disagree? Please put your own input. 😀

I just don’t like being around people who are high, even on marijuana. Or people who are drunk. I don’t think it’s a big deal, but they get on my nerves.

But you go ahead, Cheech, and smoke till you’re up in the sky.

I agree it doesn’t fit the label. It isn’t as bad as cigarettes or alcohol.

People that smoke Marijuana think that its the best thing in the world, and that there is nothing wrong with it.
Most people that I know who smoke weed, are soo ignorant to the effects it has, and they hate people that disagree.
I have schizophrenia, and IM sixteen, I started smoking it when I was 14 and it made my mental illness so much worse, and it was a huge mistake.
I see the effects, and kids my age who smoke use it to look cool.
Its a phase that most people grow out of. And there are actually facts of the harm full effects it has.
I cannot stand when people say “weed was made by god alcohol was made by man, who do you trust?”
Your drug dealer? Hmmm, maby not.

more everyday people are becoming aware that weed is not really a super harmful drug. California will legalize it in the next 5 years. Already there are 16 marajuana shops (for medical reasons only) in my town that i live in in colorado. It is also completly legal in some towns in colorado, like Breckenridge. This is an open forum site so many of the people who answer will be in middle/high school where they are forced to learn by public school policies that ALL illegal drugs are bad. They will chill out a little once they turn 18 and smoke their first joint

i just don’t like the idea of any of my friends or family smoking pot, so why would i want anyone else to do that? i hate it when my friends are totally out of it because the night before they had a pot party. i dont know the actually science behind it, but i know that it does have some medicinal uses. i think my stance on it is only use marijuana for medication and abuse is never okay.

  • Scene Poser:

i agree with you. weed hasnt done ANYTHING bad for me or anyon i kno

  • Jillian Galloway:

Agree. Humans have used marijuana for more than 5,000 years, if it “fried our brain cells” we’d know all about that by now just like we know that alcohol gives us liver disease and tobacco gives us lung cancer.

Anyway, here’s what people far more learned than me have said about it:
DEA Chief Administrative Law Judge Francis L. Young – “In strict medical terms marijuana is far safer than many foods we commonly consume. It is physically impossible to eat enough marijuana to induce death. Marijuana in its natural form is one of the safest therapeutically active substances known to man. Marijuana does not meet the legal criteria of a Schedule I prohibited drug and should be reclassified”.

Governor Raymond P. Shafer, Commission chairman of the National Commission on Marijuana and Drug Abuse (“the Shafer Commission”) – “the actual and potential harm of use of marijuana is not great enough to justify intrusion by the criminal law into private behavior” and recommended that “the possession of marijuana for personal use no longer be an offense, and that the casual distribution of small amounts of marijuana for no remuneration, or insignificant remuneration no longer be an offense”.

Dr. Donald Tashkin, author of the largest study ever conducted into marijuana and cancer – “We hypothesized that there would be a positive association between marijuana use and lung cancer, and that the association would be more positive with heavier use. What we found instead was no association at all, and even a suggestion of some protective effect”.

The World Health Organization – “the gateway theory is the least likely of all hypotheses”.

The Lancet (British medical journal) – “the smoking of cannabis, even long term, is not harmful to health”.

So that’s the health aspects of marijuana, lets also look at its prohibition:
John P. Walters, Director of the Office of National Drug Control Policy – “Marijuana, not heroin or cocaine, is the “bread and butter,” “the center of gravity” for Mexican drug cartels that every year smuggle tons of it through the porous U.S.-Mexico border. Of the $ 13.8 billion that Americans contributed to Mexican drug traffickers in 2004-05, about 62 percent, or $ 8.6 billion, comes from marijuana consumption”.

Secretary of State Hillary Rodham Clinton – “The killings, beheadings and bombings in Mexico are due to “our insatiable demand for illegal drugs”.

So, taxpayers pay $ 40 BILLION a year for the prohibition which *doesn’t* stop people smoking (so whatever “harms” it causes are with us already and always will be) and which empowers the sadistic drug cartels, resulting in the death of thousands of good people every year. We need to STOP people buying from the cartels, and the ONLY way to do that is by allowing legitimate businesses to produce and sell marijuana to adults with after-tax prices set too low for the cartels to match. We have to legalize marijuana.
