Why Do Celebrities Get Off Easier for Crimes?

Question by caramel_latte: Why do celebrities get off easier for crimes?
Seriously, they are the ones in the public eye…they are role models to today’s youth and other things. And yet, it seems celebrities get less of a punishment and get off easier for crimes. for example:
Former “Baywatch” star Yasmine Bleeth was arrested in September 2001 by Michigan police and charged with cocaine possession. The actress pleaded guilty to one criminal count and was sentenced in January 2002 to two years probation and 100 hours of community service.
If that was some random girl or guy in the city, they’d be in jail.

they think that they are making the smart decision. Really the jury makes the decision, so they may favor the celebrity, because they think that that person may like them later…

They think they are better than everyone else and the same rules we follow don’t apply to them. Just look at Miley Cyrus: can’t sing or act, yet isn’t kicked off the air because of her lack of talent. That’s a serious offense for fooling people into thinking you have talent.

Celebrities are a huge part of society. If a celebrity gets jailed, a lot of peopled get pissed off. Unless however the celebrity is only famous because they’re hated so much… I guess the answer varies.

I have no evidence to prove this, but I think that plenty of common folk get light sentences, they just don’t get the publicity. We only get to know of a few cases that involve non-celebrities, so we just don’t know. If everyone that was charged with a crime that could have jail time got that jail time, the prisons would be much more overcrowded as they are now. We only hear about some celebrities getting light sentences because they are in the public eye.

It is all because of money. If you have money you can get out of almost anything. Look at Nicole Ritchie she only got 4 days. HELLO!!!

That would be crazy in any civilian case. It is not fair. I do think the judge was fair somewhat with Paris Hilton sending her back. He didn’t break…he stook with his decision!

The courts are always willing to take TONS of money instead of sentencing jail time. Non-celebrities can’t possibly pay these incredibly high sums so they are put in jail.

One word-MONEY. Look at Brandy, if that were one of us “normal” people. We’d be screwed. We’d be charged with vehicular homicide and in jail. But the one that always gets me is Ted Kennedy, He went out boozing one night. Drove drunk, crashed his car off the road and into the ocean. He gets out and goes home. He leaves the lady in the car. And he’s still Senator of Massachuetts. If that was one of us then we’d still be in jail.
